PEIA: Reversing the Arrow

Looking Out Instead of Looking In

If you haven't taken time to listen to a podcast yet, here is your first change. Three youngish pastors at decently.org hold an excellent discussion on the nature of prayer, especially within the context of worship.

This is one of the best episodes of this particular podcast:

Jim,
I downloaded this and tried to listen to it. There was some good stuff on it, but frankly it was too long. I listen to to my Zune when I do my morning workouts for about 45 minutes. I think this file was for like an hour and 15 minutes. Zunes are screwy and if you don't set it up right you end up starting back at the beginning. (Or at least I haven't figured out a way to resume where I left off.) I haven't been inspired enough to listen to those first 45 minuts again, so I haven't listened to the whole thing.

ANYWAY, bottom line... Do you know of emerging church podcast sites that are more in the half hour to 45 minutes range?

yeah, decently is usually too long. they could really focus their discussions better...

the absolute best one is the nick and josh podcast. they are always about a half hour. about five minutes of opening banter and then a 20 - 25 minute quality interview with an emerging church figure: http://thenickandjoshpodcast.com/

Emergent village also produces podcasts. they vary in length but I haven't had a chance really to listen to any of them, but I know I should... http://www.emergentvillage.com/podcast/

In the past I've liked the kindlings muse, though I've fallen away a bit from listening to it. Not so much emerging (whatever that means) but more centered on faith engaging with culture (books, music, art, etc.) My guess is that of the three you'd probably like this one the best. http://www.thekindlings.com/

Thanks, Jim. I downloaded Nick and Josh and the Kindlings. In the podcast I listened to Nick and Josh interviewed Frank Viola who co-authored a book called Pagan Christianity with George Barna. It was an interesting interview, but I found it a little frustrating. Viola's premise is that much of what we have in the church today is not Biblical in its origin but from Greco-Roman pagan culture. However, in the interview he was not at all specific of what kinds of things he was talking about. Are you, or anyone else reading this, familiar with this book and can clarify this?

I enjoyed the one podcast of the Kindlings. It was all movie reviews, a much better version of what I was trying to do on the conversation I started on this site.

I have not read Pagan Christianity. This guy though has and he offers some commentary and critical analysis. I think he actually works through it chapter by chapter: http://bobhyatt.typepad.com/
